Mystikal 2008 Calendar

From The Desk of The Director

May 8, 2008 – Last weekend's guard and field percussion 2 day rehearsal was a great success. Saturday was a get into the drum corps groove and work out the kinks from being indoors. We will definately have a great time getting to know each other over the next 3 months.

Sunday's rehearsal was the icing on the cake. The two sections had the chance to rehearsal on the campus of California State University, Long Beach. The weather was great and the fans/students loved watching the professional musicians doing what they love to do.

We are looking for volunteers to help with our Memorial Weekend Camp. Please send me an email (rlowery@mystikal-corps.org) if you would like to help feed, chaperone and fit uniforms. If you can not volunteer Memorial Weekend, please make a donation to help offset the inflation cost of fuel and food. This corps is going to go a long way. But we NEED you in order strive and grow for the future.

Mystikal’s Executive Director Appointed to DCI Open Class National Advisory Board

On Saturday January 26, 2008 at the Drum Corps International Annual Conference held in Orlando, Florida, Rob Lowery was appointed to serve on the Open Class National Advisory Board. This position is tasked with many duties that will govern the operation of DCI’s Open Class Corps. Some of the objectives set by this advisory board will assist new and re-emerging corps to prepare for the evaluation process that is required to become a competing corps. Other duties will be to develop new business models for the operation of Open Class Events and explore new ways for Open Class corps to entertain audiences with new and inventive ways not yet introduce into Drum Corps International competitive field.

Rob Lowery will also work on developing Open Class tours in the Pacific Region for 2009 and 2010. This is going to be a challenging task because the Region Expands from California up to Washington and out to Colorado and Wyoming. The DCI Pacific Advisory is greatly appreciated that Rob has accepted this project. This project will determine the future of drum corps activity in the Pacific Region.
